Hello friend! In this post, I am going to talk about the best plant-based diet documentary, so you and your friends can go watch it ASAP and learn some important facts that will blow up your mind.
Fun fact, I don’t think there is only one best documentary, I think there are so many great ones out there, and that is why today I am going to talk about 5 extraordinary films, that everyone who is on a plant-based diet must watch. Basically, I am going to provide you with my favorite plant-based diet documentary, and 4 other documentaries that to me, are the best in the business.
I highly recommend you watch these documentaries by yourself, and encourage you to take notes, pause and rewind, and re-watch the parts that you find the most interesting. There is so much information that is shared throughout the films, so in order to not be overwhelming, take your time. Don’t rush through them.
Use the information you learn wisely. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming to learn all of this new information. Take your time to process what you just saw.
Although I consider it very important to know how farm animals are treated before we have them on our food plates, these documentaries don’t have graphic violence towards the animals. That’s a good reason I am recommending them. So, you can learn the valuable information, and not be thrown off, or taken aback by those brutal scenes.
After watching my first plant-based diet documentary, “Cowspiracy”, I remember that it was almost like an immediate connection to this lifestyle. I went and ordered some books, (you can check out my post on 5 Best Plant Based Books), and never looked back.
The fact is that the evidence supports that we don’t need to hurt and kill animals in order for us to get our nutrients. We can live and thrive while eating a plant-based diet. I have been living like this for the past 4 years, and I can honestly tell you that I am healthier than ever before. Plus, I am very happy that I am not contributing to the torture of animals.
For me going on a plant-based journey made sense. All my life, I have been an advocate for animal rights. It was very wrong to say that while I was eating others. When I went Plant-based, a huge weight came off my shoulders. Now I eat with no remorse.
Best Plant Based Diet Documentary
“What the Health”
This film is basically a camera following the filmmaker, as he tries to uncover the secrets to preventing and reversing chronic diseases. With heart disease and cancer, the leading causes of death in America, and diabetes at an all-time high, the film reveals possibly the largest health cover-up of our time.
To me, this is hands down the best plant based diet documentary.
Kip Andersen, the filmmaker, investigates why the nation’s leading health organizations don’t want us to know about how a plant based diet can prevent and reverse these diseases. He then exposes the collusion and corruption in government and big business that is costing trillions of healthcare dollars, and keeping us sick.
Fun fact, this documentary was made by the creators of “Cowspiracy”, another must-watch film, also on my list.
Other Must Watch Plant Based Diet Documentary
“Cowspiracy”
In this film, Kip Andersen –Yes, the same guy from “What the Health”—uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.
Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption, and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged.
It is a very scary process that Andersen goes through, trying to uncover the truth behind this industry, but one that it’s imperative for you to know about.
This film reveals the devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet, and offers a path to global sustainability for a growing population.
“Forks over knives”
This is one of the most popular plant based diet documentaries there are out there. It’s one of the pioneers.
Forks Over Knives examines the claim that most of the chronic diseases that afflict us can be controlled or even reversed by not eating animal-based and processed foods.
The storyline traces the personal journeys of two doctors, Caldwell Esselstyn, a former top surgeon, and T. Colin Campbell a nutritional biochemist. Without knowing each other, both doctors started researching and their discoveries led them to the same conclusion: Chronic diseases including heart disease and type 2 diabetes can almost always be prevented, and in many cases reversed, by adopting a whole-food plant-based diet.
The film follows everyday Americans with chronic conditions as they seek to reduce their dependence on medications and learn to use a whole-food, plant-based diet to regain control over their health and their lives.
“Seaspiracy”
Seaspiracy is a documentary film that exposes the environmental impact of fishing and how we humans are causing an impact on marine life. The film advocates for ending fish consumption.
It also explores environmental issues affecting oceans, including plastic pollution, ghost nets, and overfishing. Also, it argues that commercial fishing is the main driver of marine ecosystem destruction. It rejects the concept of sustainable fishing, and criticizes several marine conservation organizations, and how said companies focus on efforts that are the wrong ones.
This film was produced by Kip Andersen, the same guy who produced “Cowspiracy” and “What the Health”. This guy is truly an inspiration.
“The Game Changers”
If you are into sports, you are going to love this one. The Game Changers tells the story of James Wilks — elite Special Forces trainer and The Ultimate Fighter winner — as he travels the world on a quest to uncover the optimal diet for human performance.
This guy got injured and couldn’t train for 6 months. So he decided to research an optimal diet to help with his recovery and stumbled across a study about the Roman gladiators which concluded that they ate little or no meat. He then went and met the researchers of this study and made him go on this 5-year quest for the “Truth in Nutrition”.
Showcasing elite athletes, special ops soldiers, visionary scientists, cultural icons, and everyday heroes, what James discovers permanently changes his understanding of food and his definition of true strength.
CONCLUSION
The documentaries mentioned above can be found very easily on Google. There are many more films that showcase the advantages of a plant-based diet, for humans and for the planet. If you are like me you are gonna binge-watch them all.
If you have any suggestions feel free to make them.
I will leave you with this quote made by Bruce Lee:
“Research your own experience, absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is specifically your own.”
