Winter Races?

I’ve been pondering quite a few running things lately.

Things like starting a new training plan, picking my first full/ultra, quitting racing altogether (silly me) and running a winter half, the NYRR Manhattan Half on Sunday January 27, 2013

Rewind that, running a winter half? Am I crazy? Who runs a half marathon in New York in January? Someone must or else they wouldn’t hold it. Freezing temps, snow, and ice?  If others can do it why shouldn’t /can’t I ? Am I hardcore enough? Can I even survive 13.1 miles in bone chilling and or snowy conditions? I’ll never know if I don’t try and I want to try, I think.

2012 Manhattan Half Start

What do you think – winter race = fun or hell cray cray no? Have you ever run a race in the winter? Would you consider it? Do you want to run it with me?

I'd totally do it, but I'm the crazy girl who prefers training for early spring marathons instead of fall. Wish I was just a bit closer to NY!

meh.. running in the ice/cold/snow doesn't sound fun to me. I'll stick with my fall races! (: thats cold enough!

I race year round. My first race ever was a Dec 5K. I would run a half in January or February without even a second thought.

Since I had to sit out my fall Half Im itching for another... Jan seems to be the soonest, maybe a december shorter race will do the trick ;)

Definitely do it, there are enough people around to ensure you are safe and if it is snowing its an added bonus and bragging rights :-)

I love gear so I guess running a winter race is the perfect excuse for some new gear ;)
