I’ve been trying to do a frequent, ok semi frequent Foods For Runners themed posts, so here goes…
PEANUT BUTTER! Yay!
I’m a big fan of nut butters, Peanut is one of my favorites, I go back and forth with Peanut and Almond being my favorites. Nut butters are full of protein, fat and fiber which gives a slow, sustained release of energy – perfect for endurance athletes.
I think it is safe to say that Peanut Butter is the traditional and most popular butter of the nut butter family. It’s got some of the good fats, provides protein, vitamins B3 and E, magnesium, folate, dietary fiber, niacin and folic acid. It’s great with apples, on toast, waffles, mini bagels (yum!) or right off the spoon.
The second most popular nut butter? That would be Almond Butter, which contains significantly more fiber, calcium, potassium, iron and manganese than peanut butter and contains about half the saturated fat… it does have a slightly higher total fat content. Almond butter is also great with apples, bananas, on toast or right off the spoon
Justin’s (love them) make these great little pouches that are easy to take and consume on the go and come in a variety of flavors, the maple and honey are my favorites. Side note: many other brands make these packet things
Pre run, during run and post run, peanut and or almond butter is a great food for runners. What is your favorite way to eat nut butters?
