It’s that time of year again! The time for gift giving. If you are into gifting by want, or need or even demand then I’ve got some great ideas for you!
Lets start with clothing, sneakers, and sports bras. Us runners can be a wee bit crazy about the specifics of our gear so unless you know exactly which size, brand, and color to get avoid these items. Wouldn’t it be awkward to get a sports bra from a coworker?
Gift Cards – Always a safe and much appreciated gift. I prefer local running stores, iTunes (for music and apps) Road Runner Sports, or Running Warehouse. Every runner can always use more gear and if they say they can’t they are lying.
Gymboss – Awesome line of interval timers great for cross training and speed work. I just wrote a post on Gymboss and am hosting a giveaway until 11/26/12.
Nuun – Portable tablets that come in a wide variety of flavors including my favorite Lemon Lime make an awesome gift to keep runners hydrated. You can purchase via Nuun.com or find at your local sporting goods stores.
Beanie/Headband/Gloves – Baby its cold outside… Brooks, Nike, and Under Armour make some of my favorite beanies, headbands and gloves. See here and here. Note to anyone paying attention: I would KILL for a Brooks ‘Run Happy’ Beanie, I swear I saw someone wearing one once but i’m told they only exist in my dreams.
GPS Watch – I’ve gotten a GPS watch as a gift in the past (sold it) and refused a different one as a gift another time. I’m weird like that, I didn’t feel I deserved it or was a ‘good enough’ runner to justify having one. Of course all I want right now is a GPS watch. This is the ULTIMATE Christma-Chanukka-Kwanzaa Gift. My favorites include the Nike+ Tom Tom SportsWatch and The Garmin 210/610.
Socks – Runners can never ever ever have enough socks. I’ll be honest I hate socks, they make my feet claustrophobic. However, Lululemon, and Brooks make socks so awesome that I’ve been know to wear them. Compression Socks, like these, for post long run recovery would also make a great gift.
Sneakers – Don’t do it! I’m warning you, I may end badly. UNLESS you know the specifics. Jen? Mom? Are you reading this? Brooks Pure Flow Purple please! As previously stated RUNNERS are obsessive in regards to brands and colors, and sizes vary from shoe to shoe, go with a gift card instead.
Random Accessories – For me this would include Picky Bars, a Headlamp, anything from the Brooks Pure Project line, lots of shot bloks, Bodyglide, or a Foam Roller, specifically this foam roller or a water bottle belt.
I love giving and receiving experiences as gifts. Tickets to a sporting event, a night at the theatre, a day or overnight getaway, skydiving (NOT for me) or even a trip to the Zoo! I’d love to receive any of the following experience gifts! and I’m sure most runners would too.
Race Registration(s)- I don’t want to suggest actually registering for a race for someone (is that even allowed?) Yet drafting a card or certificate for a ‘Race Registration’ would make for an amazing gift. A destination race, like the Virginia is for Lovers 14k would be fabulous.
Massage/Yoga/Spinning Class – Massage for my over worked legs? A Yoga class to cross train, relax and recover ? A Spin class to fill in the gaps between runs? Awesome, awesome and more awesome. Even better would be if the class was for two.
Looking forward to getting running related gifts? Excited to give your favorite runner something special? Do you have running gear on your holiday wish list? (if you have a wish list) Did I leave anything BIG off my list?
